Although there have been rare reports of patients with acute deep vein thrombosis developing pulmonary embolism after undergoing duplex venous scanning, documented cases of pulmonary embolism during scanning are extremely rare. This case illustrates the challenges faced by technologists and radiologists while scanning patients with acute deep vein thrombosis and the preventative measures that can be taken.
