Background of the Study: The main reason for atrial fibrillation is the structural changes that happen in the left atrium which are traditionally monitored by echocardiographic parameters such as left atrial diameter and volume index, left atrial fractional shortening, and left atrial thickness. The CHA2DS2-VASC score is a clinical scoring system to determine patients in atrial fibrillation in need of anticoagulation because of the risk of stroke. However, even patients with low CHA2DS2-VASC scores (0-1) who are not given anticoagulation develop stroke.
