Intravenous injection of powdered tablets intended for oral ingestion is a common practice among drug abusers, as this route is believed to be more effective at accelerating drug delivery compared to oral ingestion. This can result in acute and chronic changes in the pulmonary vasculature and parenchyma. Various terms have been used to describe the disease, including autoinduced pulmonary granulomatosis, pulmonary antithrombotic granulomatosis, pulmonary mainstem granulomatosis, and angiocentric systemic granulomatosis. Acute right ventricular failure is a life-threatening complication of intravenous injection of powdered drugs, with only a few cases reported in the literature.
